Krastu Mastru is an educational, research-based, exchange of practices and knowledge on the art of drystone making.
Krastu, a Sardinian term for identifying a stone, a rock, a boulder. Mastru, refers to a master of art and craft. Krastu Mastru is thus “a master stone,” a guide in the landscape.
Through the collective restoration of a retaining wall in an old vineyard under regeneration, the sharing of experiences and guided field trips, the purpose of the meeting is to learn the basics of the art of drystone work.
The meeting aims to convey the importance of this construction technique as part of a set of practices of landscape maintenance and care. In a collaborative and respectful working environment, the meeting convenes local artisan figures, freelancers, institutional and independent researchers and representatives from Mediterranean realities, including:
4 GRADA DRAGODID (Croatia), ITLA Italia (Italy), INLAND – Campo Adentro (Spain), Ambassada (Tinos, Greece), Foghiles (Sardegna), Università degli Studi di Sassari.
Krastu Mastru is an event sponsored by COR – Centro Operativo di Ricerca sulla Pietra a Secco (Drystone Practice and Research Center), curated by ISSLA and Foghiles as part of Scuola Mediterranea della Pietra a Secco (Mediterranean Drystone School project).
